Topic: So Sei Getsu Roger Cochran is an STO Zen Priest who has studied with Taiun Elliston Roshi since about 1988. He will be receiving his black robe at the Shuke Tokudo ceremony after ASZC soto service Sunday, June 27, 2021.

He participated in Jukai/Wagesa about 1990 and Zaike Tokudo/Rakusa about 1992. He has been an extremely active leader within the greater Sangha having edited Dharani newsletter from about 1992-1995 and serving as ASZC board member about 1995-1997.

In 2010, So Sei Getsu moved to Jacksonville where he established the Jacksonville Soto Zen Meditation Group in 2012 as Practice Leader under Taiun Elliston Roshi’s guidance. He served on the STO Board of Directors from 2013-2019. He also studied Shin Buddhism with Rev. Koyo Kubose 2015-2017, and was ordained in that practice as a lay minister.

So Sei Getsu returned to South Atlanta in 2017 and established South Atlanta Zen Sangha in 2018 with the help of Ryugin David Toone. This Sangha continues today with weekly sittings. All this has been supported by So Sei Getsu’s wife, Dorothy Merrick, an ordained teacher in the Bright Dawn order of Shin Buddhism.
